Some students already know what they want to major in. But for very many students, looking for and
deciding on a major is challenging. To
help you find a major that is right for you, the U of M offers specfic resources to assist throughout each stage of the decision.

CLA How-To
Guide: Choosing a Major
Walk through this
online, step-by-step guide to consider resources based on where you are
personally in making this decision.
ID 1201: Major and Career Exploration
In this 2 credit course,
you will learn about career opportunities and thoroughly assess your skills,
values, and interests to help you focus on career objectives.

Browse
and compare all U of M majors and minors: 1) Enter a keyword, 2) Select a
program type, and 3) Search!
Department
Directory
Learn more about
major/minor areas through the department. First browse their website. Then,
talk with a departmental adviser – before actually deciding on that major. You
can formally ‘declare’ the major later (sometime before completing 60
credits).
Special
Events
Look for information sessions and workshops related to specific
interests and majors. Register if needed, and mark your calendar!
